C-glass surface tissue is an ultra-fine, lightweight sheet of glass fibres designed to form the outermost layer of a fibreglass laminate. The “C” stands for chemical-resistant glass, which offers significantly improved resistance to acids, salts, and moisture compared to standard E-glass.
Because the fibres are so fine, the tissue wets out quickly and evenly with resin, creating a smooth, resin-rich surface. This helps hide the rough texture of heavier reinforcement mats or cloths underneath, improves the surface finish, and prevents the weave or strand pattern from showing through the gelcoat over time. It also adds an extra protective barrier against chemical attack and weathering.
C-glass tissue is commonly used as the inner lining of chemical storage tanks and pipes, in roofing sheets, or directly below the gelcoat in marine laminates—anywhere you need a smooth, high-quality finish combined with enhanced corrosion resistance. It’s also a much softer and more conformable alternative to standard surface tissue, making it ideal for producing intricate shapes and improving the finish of complex moulded parts.
Weighing approximately 26g per square metre and 1 metre wide, this very fine mat can also act as a barrier layer between the gelcoat and coarser matting to prevent print-through. It offers fast wet-out and is compatible with most resins, including polyester (PE), vinylester (VE), epoxy, and phenolic systems.
Please note that orders up to 5m will be folded. The maximum length on a loose roll is 25m. For example, if you order 50 × 1m, you will receive 2 × 25m rolls.
